thinkorswim OnDemand: what the replay does, and what a journal adds

Let us say it before anything else: thinkorswim OnDemand is not a trading journal, and Tradoshi is not a brokerage platform. OnDemand is a feature of thinkorswim, Charles Schwab's platform: according to Schwab, it replays any trading period from the last several months so you can practise with simulated trades. The word “journal” does not appear on any of the five Schwab thinkorswim pages read on 10 September 2026, verified by counting. This page exists because many traders look for an OnDemand alternative, and the honest answer is that there is no need to choose.

Tradoshi is forkeeping a record of what you do, for real and in testing: your imported trades are measured, your backtesting sessions are grouped by strategy and scored with your journal's formulas, and your emotional state is logged before the session.
Keep OnDemand forreplaying a past session inside the platform you trade on, at no extra cost if you are a Schwab client. For a US stocks or options trader, our backtesting is not an alternative: it replays none of those markets.
The right answerboth, if you trade at Schwab. OnDemand to practise, Tradoshi to keep the memory of what you actually do and of what pulls you away from your rules.

Every price on this page is in dollars, on both sides, and no exchange rate is applied. Schwab displays no price of its own for OnDemand: it is part of thinkorswim, which Schwab makes available to its clients free of charge, its standard pricing applying to real orders. Without a Schwab account, a Guest Pass lets you try thinkorswim for 30 days. Prices read on schwab.com on 10 September 2026: their page prevails over this one.

On price there is no contest: for a Schwab client, OnDemand costs nothing, and our backtesting starts on the Pro plan, at $39.99 per month. Neither our free plan nor Essential includes it. If all you want is to replay a session inside your platform, stay with OnDemand. What we charge for is elsewhere: keeping the memory of your real trades and your test sessions, measuring them with the same formulas, and seeing what pulls you away from your rules.

2. The partner offer, in months of revenue

Schwab publishes no affiliate program for creators on the pages read. What exists is a client-to-client referral: a referred friend who becomes a client and makes a qualifying net deposit can get up to $1,000, according to Schwab's page. It is a welcome bonus paid to the referred person, not a commission on a subscription.

Our schedule is public and pays from the first customer: 15% for life, 20% at fifteen active subscribers, 25% at fifty-one, on every payment collected.

Comparing two percentages means nothing while the durations differ. The honest unit is months of the referred customer's revenue: it neutralises both the product price and the commission duration. Read it as: for a customer who stays N months, the partner has earned the equivalent of X months of that customer's revenue.

ProgramStays 6 monthsStays 12 monthsStays 24 monthsStays 36 months
Tradoshi 15% (from the 1st customer)0.901.803.605.40
Tradoshi 20% (15 customers and up)1.202.404.807.20
Tradoshi 25% (51 customers and up)1.503.006.009.00

The table only holds our rows: a referral bonus paid to the referred person does not convert into months of revenue, and OnDemand has no subscription a commission could land on.

To be clear for a creator: these two recommendations do not compete. A trader who replays sessions on thinkorswim is still a prospect for a journal, and the reverse holds too.

On our side, the commission lands on every payment collected, with a 30-day holding period and a €500 payout threshold.

3. Mentoring, and who pays for whom

Mentoring appears on none of the thinkorswim pages read: no mentor account, no student invitation, no shared space. Schwab highlights something else, which deserves credit: live and on-demand education, with the Learning Center and Schwab Coaching, and trading specialists reachable 24/7.

At Tradoshi, the mentor account is free. The student is the subscriber, from the Pro plan up, and invites their mentor, who pays nothing to follow their trades and progress.

For a trader working alone this line is worth nothing, and that should be said. For a school or an educator it decides everything: following thirty students costs nothing extra, where elsewhere it would take one subscription per supervisor.

4. The full comparison, feature by feature

Every line comes from both public pricing pages, read on the same day. Nothing is pulled from a help centre on one side and a grid on the other: on unequal evidence, a comparison stops being honest. “Absent from the grid” means exactly that, not “does not exist”.

Practising on the market

OnDemand and thinkorswim's turf. According to a Schwab article published in August 2024, OnDemand replays any period from the last several months with the charts and quotes of the time, and you place simulated trades in it. It is the only Schwab text read that describes it: the thinkorswim product pages do not mention it. On this ground our backtesting does a similar job, on fewer markets than thinkorswim and not for free.

5. What we concede to thinkorswim OnDemand

A comparison won on every single line is not a comparison, it is an advert. Here are the points where thinkorswim OnDemand is ahead, with nothing taken off.

For a Schwab client, OnDemand costs nothingIt is part of thinkorswim, free for Schwab clients. Our backtesting starts on the Pro plan, at $39.99 per month: neither the free plan nor Essential includes it. On the price of the replay alone, the comparison is lost before it starts.
US stocks and options, which our backtesting does not replaythinkorswim covers stocks, ETFs, options, futures and forex. Our backtesting replays forex, gold and silver, the major indices, a few cryptos and oil: no US stock, no option. For an options trader, we are not an alternative on this point.
The replay sits inside the platform you trade onAccording to Schwab, OnDemand opens with one click at the top right of thinkorswim: you practise in the interface where you place your real orders. With us, backtesting is a separate tool, in another window.
paperMoney and thinkScript, two tools we do not havepaperMoney simulates trades on the live market with $100,000 of virtual money, and thinkScript, on the desktop version, lets you code your own analysis and your order execution and strategy testing algorithms. We have neither a real-time simulator nor a programming language.
No sync with SchwabTradoshi does not connect to thinkorswim: your trades come in through the statement import, to be repeated each time you want your journal up to date. It is one more step, and it is better to know it upfront.

The verdict

If you trade at Schwab, you are going to keep OnDemand, and that is fine: it is included, it sits in your platform, and the platform covers markets our backtesting does not replay. OnDemand answers “how would my strategy have behaved in that session?” and, for a Schwab client, nothing is simpler. Tradoshi answers “what do I actually do when it is real?”: what are my losing streaks, at what hour do I lose, what state was I in, and do I stick to my rules. The most sensible setup is simple: OnDemand to practise, your thinkorswim statement imported into Tradoshi to measure. And if you trade forex, gold or indices and want test sessions scored with your journal's formulas, our backtesting is built for that, from the Pro plan.

Frequently asked questions

What is thinkorswim OnDemand?

A feature of thinkorswim, Charles Schwab's platform. According to a Schwab article published in August 2024, it lets you replay any trading period from the last several months and place simulated trades on the charts and quotes of the time. You open it by clicking OnDemand, at the top right of thinkorswim.

Is thinkorswim OnDemand free?

Schwab states that the thinkorswim platform suite is free for its clients, its standard pricing applying to real trades. A Schwab account is required to log in, with no minimum amount to open it. Without an account, Schwab offers a 30-day Guest Pass to try thinkorswim. No price specific to OnDemand is displayed.

What is the difference between OnDemand and paperMoney?

Schwab gives it itself: paperMoney simulates trades on live market data, with $100,000 of virtual buying power, while OnDemand simulates trades on past charts and quote data. One trains you in the present, the other lets you relive a period that is already over.

Is Tradoshi an alternative to thinkorswim OnDemand?

Not strictly. Our backtesting also replays the market candle by candle, future hidden, with simulated orders and the execution costs you set. But it covers neither US stocks nor options, it starts on the Pro plan, and it is not inside your brokerage platform. What we add is elsewhere: grouping your sessions by strategy, scoring them with your real journal's formulas, and measuring your actual trades.

Does Tradoshi sync with Schwab or thinkorswim?

No. There is no connection between Tradoshi and thinkorswim. You export your trade statement from thinkorswim, as HTML or CSV, and drop it into Tradoshi, which reads every operation, fees included. Our thinkorswim page lists stocks and futures. No password or API key is asked of you, and no order can ever be placed.

What does Tradoshi do that OnDemand does not?

Keep the memory: your real trades measured across 500+ reports, your backtesting sessions grouped by strategy, your emotional state before the session, a discipline score and a free mentor account. None of it appears on the thinkorswim pages read on 10 September 2026.

What does OnDemand do better than Tradoshi?

Five things. It is included for a Schwab client, where our backtesting starts at $39.99 per month. The platform covers stocks, options and futures, which our backtesting does not replay. It opens inside the platform you trade on. It comes with paperMoney and thinkScript, which we do not have. And your trades are already at Schwab, whereas with us they come in through an import.
