Trades with a stop loss

This is the percentage of your trades with a recorded stop loss. In MetaTrader a stop only leaves a trace in the statement if it is attached to the entry order or if it triggers: a mental stop, or one placed afterwards and never hit, is not counted.

The formula

Share of your trades opened with a defined stop.

How to read it

Your baseline protection. Below 100%, some trades had no planned loss limit at all.

This figure conditions everything else. With no recorded stop there is no R, so no R-multiple, no MAE in R, no expectancy in risk units. A journal at 40% of trades with a stop can only produce a surface-level analysis, and no measurable improvement.

The classic mistake

Treating a mental stop as a stop. It has neither the trace nor, above all, the constraint: a mental stop moves at the exact moment it would cost, that is when price reaches it. That is where losses worth five times the average loss are born.
